Chapter 7 - The Blind Escape

The high-pressure fire suppression system instantly filled the room with a thick, suffocating white foam.
Visibility dropped to absolutely zero within a matter of seconds.
The snipers on the neighboring rooftops completely lost their laser locks.
Arthur roared in blind fury as the freezing foam covered his wheelchair.
Victoria dropped her wine glass, screaming as the chemicals burned her perfectly manicured eyes.
Mark used his memory of the room's layout to dive directly toward his father's chair.
He collided heavily with the old man, knocking him onto the slick floor.
Mark's hands desperately searched the foam until he felt Billy's tiny jacket.
He scooped his son into his arms, holding him tightly against his chest.
"Elena," Mark yelled blindly into the blinding white cloud.
"I'm here," she shouted back, grabbing onto the back of Mark's wet shirt.
They navigated toward the emergency exit purely by trailing their hands along the wall.
Armed mercenaries burst into the room, coughing and firing wildly into the thick fog.
Bullets shattered the floor-to-ceiling windows, letting the howling wind into the penthouse.
Mark kicked the heavy steel fire door open, and they scrambled back into the stairwell.
They sprinted down the concrete steps, skipping multiple stairs at a time in their desperation.
Billy clung to Mark's neck, crying quietly in pure terror.
"We have to make it to the basement garage," Mark panted.
"There is a reinforced security elevator down there that leads directly to the subway tunnels."
They finally reached the bottom floor and burst into the dimly lit underground parking structure.
Elena spotted the heavy steel door of the security elevator at the far end of the lot.
They ran toward it, their shoes squeaking loudly on the damp concrete.
Suddenly, three black SUVs screeched around the corner, their high beams blinding them instantly.
The vehicles boxed them in against the concrete wall, completely blocking the path to the elevator.
The doors of the center SUV opened, and heavily armed men stepped out with assault rifles.
From the back seat, Victoria stepped out, wiping the chemical foam from her ruined hair.
She leveled a silver pistol directly at Elena's head with a psychotic smile.

"End of the line, babysitter," Victoria hissed, placing her finger on the trigger.
Before she could fire, the massive concrete ceiling above them groaned, and the lights flickered wildly.
