Chapter 6 - The Devil's Deal

Mark froze as the red laser dots danced menacingly across his soaked shirt.

He slowly raised his hands and stepped fully into the luxurious penthouse suite.

Elena followed closely behind him, her eyes locked on Billy.

"Daddy," Billy cried out, trying to squirm out of his grandfather's grip.

Arthur Vance tightened his hold on the boy just enough to keep him still.

"Hush now, little one, the adults are doing business," Arthur scolded gently.

Mark glared at the father he had mourned for ten long years.

"Let him go, Arthur," Mark demanded, refusing to call the monster his dad.

"You already have my company, you have everything you want."

Arthur let out a dry, raspy laugh that echoed across the vast room.

"Your company was merely a stepping stone, Mark," the old man wheezed.

"I need a biological heir to legally reclaim my frozen international assets."

Victoria suddenly stepped out of the shadows, her crimson dress completely untouched by the night's chaos.

"That is where I came in," Victoria smirked, pouring herself a glass of wine.

"I provided the heir, and in return, Arthur promised me half the empire."

Elena realized the horrifying truth of their twisted arrangement.

"You never loved Billy," Elena said, looking at Victoria with pure disgust.

"He was just a financial asset to you from the very beginning."

Victoria shrugged indifferently, taking a slow sip of her expensive vintage wine.

"Motherhood is vastly overrated, darling," Victoria mocked.

Arthur raised a bony hand, silencing the women with a single gesture.

He offered Mark a terrible, agonizing ultimatum.

Mark could walk away right now with Elena, entirely free to start a new life with millions in a hidden account.

If he agreed, Arthur would raise Billy as his own ruthless successor.

If Mark refused, the snipers hidden on the adjacent rooftops would immediately execute Elena.

Mark looked at Elena, his heart shattering at the impossible choice.

Elena shook her head frantically, tears mixing with the harbor water on her cheeks.

"Don't you dare leave him, Mark," she screamed.

Mark closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and looked his father dead in the eye.

"I accept your deal, Arthur," Mark said with a hollow, broken voice.

Victoria smiled in triumph, and Arthur chuckled darkly as he lowered the security barriers.

Mark slowly turned around to leave the room, his head bowed in utter defeat.

As he reached the exit, Mark subtly pulled the yacht's explosive detonator remote from his wet pocket and pressed the master override button.

The entire penthouse ceiling suddenly began to spray a thick, blinding chemical fire retardant.
