Chapter 9 - The Ultimate Betrayal

The red targeting laser of the rocket launcher painted a glowing dot directly on the helicopter's windshield.
Arthur frantically flipped the emergency thruster switches, desperately trying to get the heavy aircraft off the ground before Vivian pulled the trigger.
"Brace yourselves, Clara!" Arthur yelled over the deafening roar of the spinning rotors.
Before Vivian could fire the lethal weapon, the rooftop access doors behind her burst open again.
A squad of heavily armed SWAT officers stormed onto the roof, their tactical rifles raised and trained directly on Vivian.
"Drop the weapon, Vivian, it's over!" a commanding voice boomed through a police megaphone.
Vivian froze, her eyes widening in absolute shock as she realized she was completely surrounded.
She slowly lowered the rocket launcher, raising her hands in the air as the SWAT officers rushed forward to arrest her.
Arthur powered down the helicopter's engines, breathing a massive sigh of relief as the immediate danger finally vanished.
He climbed out of the cockpit, helping Clara and the baby step safely onto the concrete roof.
The lead detective walked through the crowd of officers, placing heavy steel cuffs securely on Vivian's wrists.
"You arrived just in time, Detective," Arthur said, extending a hand to thank the police officer.
The detective didn't shake Arthur's hand; instead, he slowly drew his service weapon and pointed it directly at Arthur's chest.
"I am sorry, Mr. Sterling, but my retirement fund requires a much larger contribution than my police pension can provide," the corrupt detective sneered.
The SWAT officers around them didn't flinch; they all raised their weapons and aimed them at Arthur and Clara.
Vivian threw her head back and laughed, a cruel, mocking sound that echoed across the quiet morning skyline.
"Did you really think I didn't have the police on my payroll, Arthur?" Vivian gloated, stepping closer to the corrupt detective.
"I own this city, and I own you."
The detective pulled a folded legal document from his tactical vest and tossed it at Arthur's feet.
"Sign the estate and the corporate assets over to Vivian, and we will let the maid and the baby walk away alive," the detective demanded coldly.
Arthur looked at the document, realizing he had absolutely no leverage left to fight with.
He slowly knelt down, picking up the pen the detective had thrown on the ground.
"If I sign this, you swear Clara and Leo go free?" Arthur asked, his voice completely broken.
Vivian smiled wickedly, resting her hand confidently on the detective's shoulder.
"You have my word, Arthur," Vivian promised, though her eyes promised nothing but death.

Arthur placed the pen against the paper, ready to sign away his entire life to save the people he loved.
Suddenly, the deafening, rhythmic chopping sound of military-grade helicopter blades echoed violently from the sky directly above them.
