Chapter 8 - The Father's Return

The blinding white light from the tactical flashlight made it completely impossible to see the traitor's face.
"Drop the gun right now, Silas," Anthony commanded perfectly calmly, instantly recognizing the man holding the lethal sniper rifle.
Silas slowly lowered the blinding light, revealing a face completely twisted by greed and absolute, unadulterated arrogance.
"The cartel simply offered me ten million dollars to easily hand over the little girl, Anthony," Silas explained with a sickeningly casual tone.
Silas quickly shifted the heavy barrel of his expensive rifle, aiming it directly at my terrified, trembling daughter.
Before Silas could even attempt to place his finger on the sensitive trigger, a deafening gunshot violently shattered the tension in the room.
Anthony had completely fired from the hip with terrifying precision, sending a heavy bullet directly through Silas's chest.
The traitor violently collapsed onto the dusty floorboards, his expensive sniper rifle clattering harmlessly away into the dark corner.
"I am incredibly deeply sorry, boss," Anthony whispered to Damen, looking completely disgusted by his former colleague's horrible betrayal.
We quickly barricaded the heavy wooden door with an old iron stove and pulled the thick, dusty curtains tightly shut.
Damen collapsed heavily onto a broken sofa, his breathing becoming terribly shallow and increasingly ragged.
"The cartel leader is heavily mobilizing his absolute best men to this exact location right now," Anthony warned grimly, checking his encrypted radio.
I firmly grabbed Damen's cold, trembling hand, completely demanding the absolute truth about the monster who fathered my child.
"Why does Julian suddenly want her now, after violently abandoning us for six entire years?" I asked, completely blinded by hot tears.
Damen pulled a small, highly encrypted digital drive from his pocket, pressing it firmly into my shaking palm.
"Julian recently discovered he has a terminal genetic illness, and Ellie is officially his only living biological bloodline to inherit the empire," Damen revealed sadly.
A massive, terrifying boom suddenly echoed violently from the dense woods outside, physically shaking the old floorboards beneath our feet.
Julian's heavily armed tactical assault teams had finally completely surrounded the fragile wooden cabin.

A loud, deeply familiar voice suddenly blared through a high-powered, military-grade megaphone from the dark darkness outside.
"Bring my beautiful daughter out to me right now, Mara, and I promise I will let you walk away completely unharmed," Julian's arrogant voice echoed loudly.
