Chapter 10 - The Checkmate

I stared completely blankly at the heavy detonator box, intensely feeling the crushing, absolute weight of an impossible, horrifying decision.

Julian arrogantly thought he had completely won the psychological game by violently using an innocent old woman as leverage.

But he completely forgot that I was no longer just a humble maid; I was officially Caterina Romano, born absolutely into ruthless violence.

I aggressively snatched the heavy sniper rifle that had belonged to the dead traitor Silas from the dusty floorboards.

"Open the front door exactly three inches on my mark," I commanded Anthony, my voice completely devoid of any fear.

Anthony nodded firmly, slowly pulling the heavy iron stove away and slightly cracking the wooden door open.

I quickly rested the heavy barrel completely on the wooden frame, perfectly aligning my tactical crosshairs in the dark night.

I did absolutely not aim at the heavily armored truck where the terrified, crying Mrs. Alvarez was violently tied up.

Instead, I aimed directly at the massive, highly pressurized auxiliary fuel tank securely mounted on the back of Julian's command vehicle.

I took one final, deeply calming breath and aggressively squeezed the heavy, sensitive trigger.

The massive bullet perfectly struck the metal tank, violently sparking an incredibly massive, absolutely blinding explosion that completely decimated Julian's command center.

The terrifying shockwave violently threw Julian's heavily armed men completely to the ground in absolute, burning chaos.

Anthony immediately charged bravely out into the absolute chaos, expertly shooting the remaining stunned guards and quickly cutting Mrs. Alvarez entirely free.

Julian stumbled violently out of the burning wreckage, completely covered in dark soot and screaming in absolute, unhinged rage.

Before Julian could even attempt to raise his weapon, Atlas aggressively leaped completely from the dark shadows and brutally tore his throat out.

The terrifying nightmare was finally, completely and absolutely over.

Three incredibly wonderful, deeply peaceful months later, we were safely living in Damen's beautiful, heavily fortified private island villa.

Damen had completely fully recovered from the poison, easily securing our family's vast financial empire and keeping us entirely safe.

I watched happily from the sunny balcony as Ellie playfully threw a yellow tennis ball for a completely relaxed, happy Atlas on the beach.

We officially had absolute total freedom, endless wealth, and the wonderful, unbreakable bond of our newly restored family.

I walked happily into the beautiful kitchen to warmly greet Mrs. Alvarez, who had happily moved in to continue being our trusted nanny.

She was standing perfectly still facing the marble counter, methodically sharpening a massive butcher knife with terrifying, robotic precision.

As I took a step forward, I suddenly realized she was softly humming the exact same secret, four-note Romano lullaby.

She slowly turned around with absolutely empty, dead eyes, and simply whispered, "The Architect truly sends his deepest regards, Caterina."
