Chapter 8 - The Siege

We fought our way fiercely down the grand staircase, leaving a massive trail of destruction.

My beautiful mansion, once a monument to my wealth, was now a chaotic war zone filled with smoke.

The powerful antidote had completely erased my weakness, replacing it with lethal, focused clarity.

Marcus covered our left flank, his heavy shotgun roaring through the elegant foyer.

Natalia proved she was a true Volkov, picking off enemies with cold, calculated precision.

I shielded Lily with my own body, moving deliberately toward the fortified garage doors.

We just needed to reach the armored SUV to get Natalia and Lily to a secure safe house.

"Three more by the front doors!" Marcus shouted, diving behind a shattered marble pillar.

I peaked out and dropped two of them, but the third fired a lucky, desperate burst.

Wood and plaster exploded dangerously near my face, blinding me for a crucial second.

When the thick dust finally cleared, the remaining Russian was nowhere to be seen.

"Keep moving!" I yelled, pushing Natalia firmly toward the heavy steel garage door.

I punched in the override code, and the heavy metal began to roll upward noisily.

The black SUV sat inside, gleaming perfectly under the bright fluorescent lights.

We rushed toward the secure vehicle, genuine hope finally blooming in my chest.

I opened the heavy rear door, ushering Lily inside to immediate safety.

Just as Natalia moved to get in, a loud gunshot echoed through the cavernous space.

Natalia gasped sharply, her eyes going wide as she stumbled forward into my arms.

Blood bloomed rapidly across the back of her white blouse, bright and terrifying.

Viktor Volkov stepped out from the dark shadows of the garage, holding a smoking pistol with a cruel smile.
