Chapter 9 - The Race Against Time

I fired a single round directly into Julian’s right kneecap before he could utter another arrogant word.
Julian collapsed to the floor and screamed in absolute agony as his expensive bourbon shattered against the wall.
I grabbed him by his bloody collar and slammed his head violently against the wooden desk.
I pressed the glowing hot barrel of my rifle against his remaining good knee.
I demanded the exact location of the warehouse where Vance was holding my wife.
Julian sobbed uncontrollably and confessed that Vance was located at the abandoned naval shipyard just three miles away.
I used heavy zip ties to bind Julian to the desk and left him bleeding in the dark office.
I sprinted back to my stolen sedan and drove like a madman toward the rusting naval docks.
The rain began to fall in heavy sheets as I crashed the car through the chained perimeter gates.
I spotted Vance’s luxury vehicle parked near a massive cargo crane suspending a shipping container over the dark water.
I utilized my advanced tactical training to hunt Vance’s remaining guards through the maze of rusting metal.
I silently snapped the neck of a sniper stationed on a catwalk and secured his elevated position.
I peered through the scope and saw Elena tied to a metal chair sitting precariously on the edge of the suspended container.
Vance was pacing back and forth while holding a heavy industrial remote control in his left hand.
He shouted into the rainy night that he knew I was hiding in the shadows.
He threatened to drop Elena into the freezing ocean if I did not show myself immediately.
I climbed down from the catwalk and stepped out into the open moonlight with my hands raised empty.

Vance laughed triumphantly and pressed his thumb against the release button on the remote.
He casually tossed the heavy plastic controller over the edge toward the black water below.
