Chapter 8 - The Ultimatum

Julian told me that he would personally hunt down Elena and slaughter her if I refused his generous invitation.
He demanded that I meet him alone at his heavily fortified warehouse in the Brooklyn shipyard.
He promised to let Marco and the baby live if I surrendered the decryption drive and my life.
I ended the call without giving him the satisfaction of a verbal response.
I spent the next hour strapping heavy ceramic armor plates over my chest and loading extra magazines into my tactical harness.
I ordered Marco to take Elena to a new untraceable location and protect her with his life.
I kissed Elena deeply and promised her that our child would grow up in a world completely free of monsters.
I stole a dark sedan and drove recklessly through the empty city streets toward the industrial waterfront.
The warehouse was surrounded by heavily armed guards patrolling the perimeter with assault rifles.
I utilized the dense shadows to silently eliminate the external sentries one by one.
I breached the side loading door and methodically fought my way through the concrete corridors.
I left a trail of broken mercenaries in my wake as I pushed toward the main executive office.
I kicked open the heavy wooden doors and aimed my weapon directly at Julian's chest.
He was sitting behind a massive desk and casually sipping a glass of expensive bourbon.
He did not look surprised or afraid as I entered his private sanctuary.
Julian simply smiled and pressed a remote button sitting on his desk.
A massive flat screen television flickered to life on the wall behind him.

The live video feed showed Marco lying motionless on a concrete floor in a massive pool of blood.
Vance Sterling was standing over Marco’s body while pressing a loaded gun directly against Elena’s pregnant stomach.
