Chapter 4 - The Warehouse Extraction

I wanted to scream my son’s name, but Daniel clamped a heavy hand over my mouth.

He pulled me behind a stack of wooden pallets, gesturing for absolute silence.

Through the glass walls of the office, I could see Michael yelling at his mother.

Cassandra was standing nearby, casually filing her nails as if observing a boring business meeting.

Michael slapped the property deed onto a metal desk and shoved a pen into Ellen’s bound hands.

Even from a distance, I could see the fresh tears streaming down my wife’s beautiful, bruised face.

She shook her head, refusing to sign the paper that would destroy her family’s legacy.

Michael pressed the barrel of the gun harder against her head, pulling back the hammer with a sickening click.

Daniel signaled to me, holding up three fingers to coordinate our breach.

He pulled a smoke grenade from his tactical vest and prepared to throw it through the glass window.

I raised the heavy pistol Daniel had given me, aiming it directly at the son I used to love.

Daniel threw the canister, and the glass shattered with a deafening crash.

Thick white smoke instantly filled the elevated office, blinding Michael and Cassandra completely.

I kicked the office door open and charged into the room, my eyes stinging from the chemical smoke.

I tackled Michael to the ground, knocking the suppressed pistol out of his hand.

He fought back violently, throwing a punch that caught me squarely in the jaw.

I tasted blood, but I did not stop fighting.

I wrapped my hands around his throat, pinning him to the concrete floor while the smoke swirled around us.

Daniel moved swiftly, cutting the zip-ties binding Ellen to the metal chair.

Cassandra tried to draw a weapon from her thigh holster, but Daniel struck her in the face with the butt of his rifle.

She collapsed into a heap of white satin and expensive jewelry.

I looked down at Michael, his eyes wide with fear as he realized he had been beaten by his own father.

I pulled him up by his collar and threw him against the wall, demanding to know why he betrayed us.

Michael laughed, coughing up blood and glaring at me with pure hatred.

He told me that I was a weak, pathetic man who never understood real power or ambition.

He bragged that the syndicate would find us no matter where we ran.

I let go of his collar in disgust and grabbed Ellen’s hand, pulling her toward the exit.

Daniel led the way, covering our escape as we sprinted across the warehouse floor.

We burst out into the rainy night, running toward the unmarked car parked down the block.

I opened the passenger door for Ellen, thanking God that she was finally safe in my arms.

Suddenly, a bright red laser dot appeared directly on the center of Daniel’s chest.

Before I could shout a warning, a single gunshot echoed through the alley.

Daniel crumpled to the wet pavement, a dark pool of blood spreading rapidly beneath him.
