Chapter 7 - The Race to the Bank

I stared at the fraudulent Power of Attorney document in absolute horror.

They had planned this completely, forging my signature years ago just in case I ever decided to rebel.

I spun around and sprinted out of my apartment before they could physically stop me.

I ignored the elevator and ran down three flights of stairs, my boots echoing loudly in the stairwell.

I threw myself into my car and sped aggressively toward the main branch of my bank downtown.

I needed to freeze every single account I had before my father could present that fake document to a teller.

I ran through the revolving glass doors of the bank, completely out of breath and frantic.

"I need to speak to the branch manager immediately, my accounts are being targeted by fraud!" I yelled to the security guard.

The manager, a kind woman named Sarah, rushed me into her private office and locked the glass door.

I quickly explained the forged Power of Attorney and begged her to place a hard lock on my entire profile.

Sarah typed furiously on her keyboard, her eyes scanning my account history with a growing look of concern.

"Kinsley, someone already presented a Power of Attorney document at our north side branch twenty minutes ago," Sarah said softly.

My heart sank into my stomach as I braced myself to hear that all my insurance money was completely gone.

"Did they drain my checking account?" I asked, tears of pure frustration burning in my eyes.

Sarah shook her head, looking at the computer screen with deep confusion.

"No, they bypassed your checking account and completely emptied a hidden trust fund left to you by your late grandmother," she explained.

I gasped, having absolutely no idea my grandmother had ever left me any money at all.

"My parents must have kept it a secret from me so they could steal it," I realized with disgust.

Sarah clicked on the security camera footage from the north side branch to show me the transaction.

"Kinsley, the person who presented the document and took the money wasn't your mother or your father."

She turned the monitor toward me, revealing the crystal-clear face of the thief.

It was my loving, supportive fiancé, Mark, smiling brightly as he walked away with half a million dollars.
