Chapter 6 - The Uninvited Guests
The revelation that my mother was a professional money launderer made my blood run entirely cold.
She had spent her whole life curating the perfect suburban image, hiding a terrifying criminal reality behind her polished smile.
I realized the fake loan she took out in my name was likely a desperate attempt to cover stolen syndicate money.
I left the lawyer's office and drove straight back to my apartment, determined to pack a bag and leave town.
I needed to be as far away from my toxic, criminal family as physically possible.
As I walked down the hallway toward my unit, I noticed my front door was slightly ajar.
I pushed the door open cautiously, my heart pounding fiercely against my ribs.
My mother and father were sitting comfortably on my sofa, drinking my tea as if they owned the place.
"You really should change your locks, Kinsley, the world is a dangerous place," my mother said with a chilling smile.
"Get out of my apartment right now, or I am calling the police," I demanded, keeping my hand near my phone.
My father stood up, trying to use his tall frame to physically intimidate me into submission.
"You are going to sign that insurance check over to us, and you are going to bail Bobby out of jail," Dad ordered.
I stood my ground, absolutely refusing to revert back to the obedient, terrified daughter they once knew.
"I know about the offshore accounts, Mom, and I know exactly who you are washing money for," I stated boldly.
My mother's perfectly painted face drained of all color, her arrogant facade completely shattering in an instant.
"You have absolutely no idea what you are getting involved in," she whispered, true fear finally entering her voice.
My father suddenly reached into his coat pocket and pulled out a thick, folded legal document.
"We don't need your permission to take the money, Kinsley," my father sneered aggressively.

He unfolded the paper and held it up, displaying a complete, notarized Power of Attorney document bearing my forged signature.
"This document gives us full legal control over all of your financial assets, effective immediately."
