Chapter 6 - The Trap is Sprung

The next morning was the emergency custody hearing. Mark and his sleazy lawyer, David Vance, arrived at the courthouse wearing thousand-dollar suits, oozing confidence. Helen was there, looking smug, ready to play the grieving grandmother. Richard was absent, likely dealing with the fallout of his missing hit squad.

Sarah and I walked in flanked by two US Marshals. Mark sneered at us.

"You're going to lose him today, Sarah," Mark whispered as we passed their table. "You're crazy, and the judge knows it."

The judge, a man who had received heavy campaign donations from the Stone family, banged his gavel. "We are here to discuss the temporary custody of Leo Stone. Mr. Vance, proceed."

Vance stood up, straightening his tie. "Your Honor, my client's wife is suffering from severe delusions, fueled by her mother, who orchestrated a traumatic and unnecessary police raid on a peaceful family dinner. We are asking for immediate, full custody."

My attorney, a ruthless former federal prosecutor, stood up. "Your Honor, we oppose this motion. Furthermore, we are filing a permanent restraining order against Mark and Richard Stone."

"On what grounds?" the judge scoffed.

I stood up, holding a flash drive. "On the grounds that Richard Stone is currently being indicted for racketeering, smuggling, and attempted murder. And Mark Stone is his primary money launderer."

Vance laughed. "This is absurd! Where is your proof?"

Right on cue, the courtroom doors flew open.
