Chapter 4 - The Counter-Offensive

Within 48 hours, I had a digital paper trail. Richard Stone was using his union influence to bypass customs inspections on specific shipping containers coming in from Eastern Europe. He was laundering the money through a web of shell companies, one of which was registered in Mark’s name.
Mark wasn't just an abusive husband; he was the bagman for a federal smuggling ring.
I didn't hand the evidence over to the local police. The Stone family owned them. Instead, I bypassed the local authorities entirely and sent the encrypted files directly to the Department of Homeland Security's anti-racketeering division.
But I needed them to panic. Criminals are careful when they feel safe. When they panic, they make mistakes.
I drafted a single, untraceable email and sent it to Richard Stone’s private server. It contained one attachment: a photograph of his offshore bank ledger, and a single sentence.

“The feds have the manifest for Container 409. Run.”
Ten miles away in his mansion, Richard Stone checked his email. I watched via a tapped cell tower relay as his phone immediately dialed Mark. The trap was set.
