At 6:30 on a freezing Thursday morning, my sister called to tell me our father had passed away. There was only one problem. Dad was sitting three feet away from me at my kitchen table, wearing a navy flannel robe, sipping fresh coffee, and stealing bacon from my plate like he had been doing every morning for the past two days.

Bullets violently shredded the expensive artwork hanging on the hallway walls as we sprinted for our lives.

The cartel mercenaries were firing completely blindly into the dark corridors.

Dad slammed his hand against a hidden panel disguised as a bookshelf.

A heavy steel door slid open, revealing the highly fortified panic room.

We dove inside just as a barrage of bullets ricocheted off the metal frame.

Dad quickly hit the emergency seal button, locking the heavy door with a deafening metallic clank.

The small room was bathed in the soft blue light of massive security monitors.

We watched the live camera feeds of the mansion completely overrun by armed killers.

The mercenaries were aggressively tearing the house apart looking for the stolen fifty million dollars.

On the basement camera feed, I saw Serena desperately trying to open the hidden vault.

She was frantically punching random numbers into the digital keypad, sobbing in pure terror.

Suddenly, the cartel leader, Don Alejandro himself, walked into the basement camera frame.

He casually raised a silver pistol and pointed it directly at my sister's head.

I covered my mouth in horror, despite everything she had done to us.

Before he could pull the trigger, the front gates of the estate were violently completely destroyed.

Four massive, armored FBI tactical vehicles crashed into the driveway.

Dozens of federal agents swarmed the property, deploying flashbang grenades and heavy smoke.

The cartel mercenaries were completely caught off guard by the massive federal raid.

A massive firefight erupted in the grand foyer, completely destroying the luxurious interior of the house.

Dad calmly picked up the secure landline telephone inside the panic room.

He dialed a direct extension to the FBI tactical commander.

"Agent Vance, this is Richard," Dad said smoothly into the receiver.

I stared at him in absolute shock as I realized he had planned this entire sting operation from the very beginning.

"The cartel leader is currently trapped in the basement with my daughter," Dad informed the agent.

When my newborn 'passed away,' my mother-in-law leaned in and said

“You’re Dead When We Get Home,” He Snapped

The FBI immediately breached the basement doors, completely surrounding Don Alejandro and Serena.

The violent siege was finally over.
