Chapter 7 - The Mastermind

Serena looked incredibly elegant in a designer black mourning dress.

She was playing the role of the grieving daughter perfectly for the outside world.

But inside this room, she looked exactly like a cold-blooded psychopath.

She gently traced the sharp edge of the knife along my father's jawline.

"Just give me the code to the vault, Dad," Serena whispered with a sweet, poisonous smile.

Dad stared at her with a look of profound, heartbreaking disappointment.

"I raised you to be a good person, Serena," he said, his voice cracking with emotion.

Serena laughed loudly, a sound entirely devoid of human empathy.

"You raised me to be a ruthless business shark, and that is exactly what I became."

She angrily paced across the expensive Persian rug.

"Julian is a complete idiot, but he was a useful pawn to help me launder the money."

I gasped silently outside the window, realizing Serena had manipulated absolutely everyone.

She never loved Julian.

She was simply using him as the perfect scapegoat in case the cartel found out about the missing millions.

"I need the vault codes to access the bearer bonds before the feds freeze your assets," Serena demanded.

Dad refused to speak, clamping his jaw shut in absolute defiance.

Serena sighed heavily, raising the massive knife above her head.

"I didn't want it to end this way, Daddy."

I couldn't wait another second in the shadows.

I picked up a heavy garden stone from the flowerbed.

I hurled the massive rock violently through the floor-to-ceiling glass window.

The deafening crash of shattering glass echoed through the massive mansion.

Serena screamed and dropped the knife in pure shock.

I dove through the broken window, rolling aggressively across the living room floor.

I scrambled to my feet, placing myself firmly between my sister and my father.

"Clara?" Serena gasped, her eyes wide with absolute disbelief.

"Julian is bleeding out at the bottom of a ravine, Serena," I lied smoothly.

Her face twisted into a mask of pure, unadulterated rage.

She reached behind the expensive sofa and pulled out a loaded shotgun.
