Chapter 4 - The Hostage

The cartel assassin pointed his weapon directly at my father's chest.
I stood completely frozen, paralyzed by the sheer reality of death staring us in the face.
"You stole fifty million dollars from Don Alejandro," the assassin said in a deceptively calm voice.
Dad raised his hands slowly, trying to project a confidence he clearly didn't feel.
"I didn't steal a single dime, my son-in-law framed me," Dad stated firmly.
The assassin chuckled, a dry and humorless sound.
"The money was transferred using your biometric authorization codes."
I realized Julian had somehow stolen my father's fingerprints to authorize the massive theft.
"I can prove Julian did it," Dad pleaded desperately.
"I don't care about proof, I only care about the money," the assassin replied coldly.
He grabbed my arm violently and yanked me away from my father.
I screamed and kicked, but his grip was like an iron vice.
He pressed the hot barrel of his gun against my temple.
"You have exactly two hours to return the fifty million dollars to our account," he told my father.
Dad stepped forward, his eyes burning with absolute fury.
"If you hurt my daughter, I will make sure you never find a single penny."
The assassin smiled wickedly and pulled a heavy zip-tie from his pocket.
He bound my wrists tightly behind my back in one swift motion.
"Two hours, Richard, or I mail her to you in pieces."
The assassin dragged me backward toward a black van parked outside the front doors.
He shoved me brutally into the dark cargo area and slammed the heavy doors shut.
I was plunged into complete and terrifying darkness.
I heard the van engine roar to life, and the vehicle lurched violently forward.
I had no idea where I was being taken.
I laid on the cold metal floor, tears of absolute terror streaming down my face.
Suddenly, I felt the van swerve aggressively.
A deafening crash echoed through the metal frame as another vehicle violently rammed into us.

The back doors burst open, revealing the blinding daylight.
Standing there holding a massive steel crowbar was my brother-in-law, Julian.
