Chapter 6 - The Standoff

The warehouse was suddenly swarming with heavily armed mercenaries.
These were not military police; they were private contractors paid off by Vance.
I slowly lowered my weapon and placed it on the concrete floor.
Vance walked out of the shadows, wiping dried blood from his jaw where I had hit him.
He praised me for being resourceful but mocked me for walking into a blatant trap.
Ryan turned around, a smug, victorious smile plastered across his face.
He told my mother that her beloved daughter had just ruined both of their lives.
My mother looked at me with tears in her eyes, but she did not look terrified.
She looked furious.
Vance ordered his men to secure my hands with heavy zip-ties.
He explained his grand plan with the arrogance of a man who believed he was untouchable.
He was going to execute both of us and stage the scene to look like a murder-suicide.
The narrative would be that I killed my mother in a fit of rage over the stolen money before turning the gun on myself.
Ryan laughed, walking over to me and grabbing my face roughly.
He whispered that he would enjoy spending my life insurance policy in the Bahamas.
I did not flinch, and I did not look away.
I calmly asked Vance if he had checked his offshore accounts in the last ten minutes.
Vance stopped smiling and pulled a secure tablet from his tactical vest.
He logged into the Swiss banking portal using his biometric scanner.
The screen flashed red, displaying a massive error message.
Vance's face went completely pale as he stared at the screen.
The thirty-five million dollars was completely gone.
I smiled at my husband and the corrupt general.
I told them that when I accessed the server from the bathroom, I didn't just copy the files.
May you like
I had authorized a total transfer of the funds directly into the United States Treasury.
Vance let out a primal scream of rage and aimed his assault rifle directly at my head.
