Chapter 6 - The Counterattack

A heavily armed tactical team stormed through the smoke and fire of the shattered doors.

These were my elite, personal guards, loyal only to me and paid from a shadow account.

Gunfire erupted instantly, illuminating the dark warehouse with blinding muzzle flashes.

I dove forward and tackled Lily to the concrete floor, covering her tiny body with my own.

Bullets ricocheted off the metal chair where she had been sitting a second before.

Julian screamed in frustration and fired two shots at me before retreating into the shadows.

One of his bullets grazed my shoulder, tearing through my coat and drawing hot blood.

I ignored the pain and pulled Lily behind a stack of wooden shipping crates.

My men systematically moved through the warehouse, neutralizing Julian’s hired mercenaries with ruthless efficiency.

The firefight lasted less than two minutes before the building fell silent again.

I stood up, holding my weapon tightly as the smoke began to clear.

My captain, a scarred veteran named Victor, walked toward me holding Julian by the collar.

Julian had been disarmed, and his face was bruised from a violent struggle.

Victor threw my brother to his knees right in front of my boots.

I looked down at the man who had stolen three years of my life and sanity.

Julian glared up at me, spitting a mouthful of blood onto the concrete floor.

I demanded to know where Elena was being held.

Julian laughed and told me I was asking the entirely wrong question.
