Chapter 5 - The Subsonic Weapon

I stared at my younger brother, feeling an overwhelming surge of absolute betrayal.

Julian wore his signature silver ring, and the scar near his ear gleamed in the harsh light.

He smiled at me, looking completely relaxed despite the weapon in his hand.

I asked him why he had betrayed our family for a housekeeper and a child.

Julian laughed, a cold and bitter sound that bounced off the metal walls.

He told me I was too weak to lead the family syndicate anymore.

He confessed that he had planted a military-grade subsonic frequency emitter inside my bedroom walls.

The device emitted an inaudible sound wave designed to disrupt human brain patterns during the sleep cycle.

He had spent three years slowly driving me insane without leaving a single chemical trace in my blood.

Julian wanted me to step down voluntarily, assuming I was losing my mind to a rare disease.

He never expected a three-year-old child to notice him sneaking in to change the batteries.

I lowered my weapon slightly, realizing the sheer scale of his calculated cruelty.

I told Julian that kidnapping civilians was a violation of the old mafia codes our father had taught us.

Julian sneered and informed me that the old codes died the day I took the throne.

He raised his revolver, preparing to execute me right in front of the little girl.

I looked Julian directly in the eyes and smiled coldly.

I told him he always underestimated my paranoia.

I pressed a hidden button on the inside of my watch, triggering my dead-man switch.

The massive steel doors of the warehouse suddenly exploded inward with a deafening roar.
