Chapter 2 - The Forged Trust

I stared at the thick legal folder in my father’s hands as a heavy silence fell over the front yard.
He walked past Ryan and presented the paperwork directly to the taller police officer.
My father confidently explained that the property was purchased using a constructive family trust account.
He claimed that I had illegally used my position at the real estate firm to divert family funds into my personal name.
The officer examined the documents carefully, his expression shifting from supportive to highly doubtful.
I felt a massive wave of confusion wash over me because I had paid for this house using my own hard-earned settlement money.
I asked the officer to show me the supposed proof of this shared family account.
The officer handed me a banking ledger that featured my signature authorizing a massive withdrawal from a joint business fund.
I studied the blue ink closely and instantly realized that my signature had been meticulously forged.
I told the police that these documents were completely fake and manufactured to steal my home.
The taller officer sighed heavily and explained that they were not forensic handwriting experts.
He stated that because my father possessed an official court injunction, this was now a complex civil matter.
The police could not legally force my family to leave the property until a judge reviewed the case on Monday morning.
My father smirked in triumph and ordered Ryan to start unloading the heavy boxes into the living room.
I absolutely refused to let them cross the threshold of my front door.
I retreated inside quickly, slammed the heavy wooden door shut, and threw the newly installed deadbolt into place.
Ryan began pounding furiously on the exterior wood, screaming that I was going to pay for this disrespect.
I ran to the kitchen and dialed my lawyer, desperately leaving an urgent voicemail about the forged documents.
I paced around the empty house, watching my family set up lawn chairs in my front yard like an invading army.
The sun slowly set over the dark lake, casting long, terrifying shadows into my living room.
I sat on the floor in the dark, hoping they would eventually give up and find a hotel for the night.
Suddenly, a loud crash echoed through the silent house as a heavy rock smashed directly through the kitchen window.
Shards of sharp glass rained down across the clean hardwood floor.
I crawled cautiously toward the shattered window and found the rock resting near the refrigerator.
A thick piece of white paper was wrapped tightly around the stone with a black rubber band.
I unfolded the note with trembling hands and read the terrifying message scrawled in bold red ink.

The note said that I had taken something extremely valuable from the company, and they were here to take it back.
I realized with absolute horror that my family was secretly working with my corrupt former boss.
