Chapter 7 - The Eviction

The judge ruled in my favor on every single count.
By Monday morning, a team of sheriff’s deputies arrived at the house Julian and Serena were squatting in.
Serena was still in her pajamas when the police knocked on the door.
"You have one hour to vacate the premises," the lead deputy informed her, handing her the court order. "The property legally belongs to Clara Vanguard."
"You can't do this!" Serena cried, running back inside to find Julian. But Julian wasn't there.
Julian had left in the middle of the night, taking the few remaining thousands he had in a secret cash stash, leaving Serena to face the police alone.
Serena scrambled to pack her designer bags, crying hysterically. She tried to call Julian, but his phone was disconnected. She tried to call her friends, the ones who had praised her for snagging a wealthy CEO, but none of them answered. Society is brutal to women who fail at gold-digging.
She walked out of the house an hour later, dragging two suitcases, her mascara running down her face.

The deputies locked the door behind her.
As she stood on the sidewalk, a familiar black Maybach drove past. I didn't stop. I just looked out the tinted window, watching her realize what it actually felt like to be thrown out onto the street with nowhere to go.
