Chapter 6 - The Courtroom Smackdown

Julian tried to fight back. Desperation makes arrogant men do stupid things.
He hired a sleazy defense attorney who promised to drag my name through the mud and demand spousal support, claiming he was accustomed to a "certain lifestyle."
The preliminary custody and asset hearing was set for a Friday morning.
I arrived at the courthouse flanked by Arthur Vance and two of the most ruthless litigators in the state. I wasn't wearing a hospital gown anymore. I wore a tailored white suit, my hair flawlessly blown out, my posture straight. I looked like a Vanguard.
When I walked into the courtroom, Julian physically flinched.
His sleazy attorney stood up, trying to act aggressive. "Your Honor, my client was unaware of his wife's vast fortune. We are requesting an immediate evaluation of her assets for standard alimony division, as she clearly hid wealth during the marriage."
The judge, a no-nonsense woman who had zero patience for Julian's tactics, looked over her glasses.
"Counselor, your client signed a prenuptial agreement," the judge said dryly.
Julian’s head snapped toward his lawyer. "What prenup? I never signed a prenup!"
Arthur Vance stood up gracefully. "Your Honor, Mr. Sterling signed a standard digital NDA and asset protection clause when he accepted the seed funding for Zenith Tech three years ago. The contract explicitly waived all rights to Vanguard Holdings assets in the event of a divorce. He didn't read the fine print."
Julian’s face went chalk-white. He had signed away his right to my money without even knowing it, because he was too arrogant to read a contract from his investors.
"Furthermore," Arthur continued, handing a folder to the bailiff. "We have obtained medical records and security footage from the hospital, proving Mr. Sterling attempted to coerce my client into signing over her only residential property while she was bleeding and heavily medicated. We are filing for total asset forfeiture due to severe financial and emotional abuse."
Julian’s lawyer looked at the documents, closed his briefcase, and leaned over to Julian.
"I need my retainer paid in full right now, or I'm walking," the lawyer whispered loudly.
"I don't have it," Julian choked out.

The lawyer stood up. "Your Honor, I must withdraw as counsel for Mr. Sterling due to a conflict of interest regarding payment."
Julian was left sitting alone at the defense table, completely abandoned.
