Chapter 8 - The Betrayal of Thieves

I stared in absolute shock as Clara pressed the barrel of her gun aggressively into Julian’s spine.

Julian froze completely, his cruel smile vanishing in an instant as he realized his sister had turned on him.

"Drop the gun, Arthur," Clara commanded, using his real name with a venomous tone.

Julian slowly lowered his weapon and dropped it onto the hardwood floor, kicking it away with his boot.

"What the hell are you doing, Clara?" he hissed, keeping his hands raised in the air.

Clara let out a bitter, echoing laugh that sent shivers down my spine.

"You got sloppy, Arthur," she sneered, stepping closer to him.

"You left evidence at the hospital, you failed to kill her in the crash, and now the authorities are circling us."

She explained that she had no intention of going to federal prison because of his incompetent mistakes.

She had decided to kill both of us tonight, frame Julian for my murder, and claim the five-million-dollar insurance payout entirely for herself.

She had already booked a private jet to a country with absolutely no extradition treaties.

"I am going to shoot her first, and then I am going to put a bullet directly in your heart," Clara stated coldly.

Julian’s eyes darted frantically around the empty room, desperately looking for an escape route.

I stood perfectly still, my eyes focused on the tiny red blinking light of the hidden camera planted in the wall.

Clara had just confessed her entire criminal motive flawlessly on a live federal broadcast.

"You are incredibly smart, Clara," I said loudly, ensuring the microphones picked up every single syllable.

"But you completely forgot one very important detail."

Clara frowned, tightening her grip on her weapon.

"What detail?" she snapped impatiently.

Before I could answer, Marcus silently dropped from the second-floor balcony landing directly behind her.

He swung a heavy wooden baseball bat with terrifying precision, striking Clara squarely in the back of the knees.

Clara shrieked in agony as her legs buckled, sending her crashing forcefully onto the floor.

Her gun clattered away into the darkness of the kitchen.

Julian did not waste a single second of the distraction.

He lunged forward, completely ignoring me, and scrambled toward his discarded weapon on the floor.

He grabbed the pistol, rolled onto his back, and aimed it directly at Marcus’s chest.

"Nobody is taking my money!" Julian screamed like a wild, deranged animal.

Before he could pull the trigger, the front door of the townhouse was violently kicked off its hinges.

A dozen heavily armed tactical agents flooded into the room with blinding flashlights and laser sights.

The lead agent aimed an assault rifle directly at Julian's head and ordered him to drop the weapon.

Julian looked at the army of federal agents, looked down at his sister bleeding on the floor, and slowly raised his gun directly toward me instead.
