Chapter 5 - The Deadly Game

Emily released her grip on his suit and backed away slowly.
She wanted nothing more than to break his jaw, but the lives of three hundred people depended on her restraint.
"You are a complete monster, Arthur," she whispered bitterly.
"I am an innovator, Emily, now go back to work," Vance replied with a dismissive wave of his hand.
She sprinted back down the aisle, ignoring the frantic questions from the cabin crew.
She burst into the cockpit and immediately jumped back into the co-pilot seat.
"We have to outmaneuver the drone, it is a forced combat scenario," Emily told the captain.
Before Captain Miller could process her words, the massive passenger jet was slammed by a violent shockwave.
The drone had dropped directly in front of their nose, intentionally breaking the sound barrier to create turbulent air.
The Boeing shook violently as it hit the artificial wake, threatening to tear the wings apart.
"I am taking full manual control," Emily yelled, gripping the yoke with both hands.
She disengaged the automated limiters, a highly dangerous move for a commercial aircraft.
She banked the massive plane hard to the right, dodging another aggressive swoop from the stealth drone.
The G-force inside the cockpit instantly multiplied, pressing them heavily into their seats.
Captain Miller grabbed his chest suddenly, his face turning an alarming shade of purple.
He gasped for air, his eyes rolling back into his head as his heart gave out under the extreme physical stress.
The captain slumped forward, entirely unresponsive against his control column.
Emily was now the only conscious pilot left on a failing plane in the middle of a deadly aerial battle.
She was flying a massive, clumsy commercial airliner against a hypersonic military machine.

The radar screen beeped aggressively, locking a red targeting reticle onto their fuselage.
The drone had just armed a live air-to-air missile.
