Chapter 8 - The DNA Trap

The public demanded transparency, so the DNA test was scheduled to happen on live television, a spectacle the American public couldn't resist. Victoria had arranged for the city's most "prestigious" medical firm—secretly heavily funded by Vance Holdings—to draw the blood.

A nurse in crisp scrubs took a swab from Julian’s cheek and a vial of his blood inside the mansion's parlor, while news cameras broadcasted it to the world. Victoria watched from her remote location, a wicked smile playing on her lips. She had already wired ten million dollars to the head of the laboratory. The results were guaranteed to show zero relation.

But Victoria didn't know about the ghosts of Julian's past.

For ten years, Julian hadn't just been hiding. Harrison had placed him in the care of Marcus, a retired, highly lethal ex-CIA operative who had owed Harrison his life. Marcus had raised Julian in the shadows, teaching him strategy, survival, and deception.

While the cameras focused on the front door of the lab, Marcus had already infiltrated the facility through the maintenance vents. He didn't tamper with the samples. He didn't have to. Instead, he simply tapped into the laboratory's mainframe and redirected the security camera feeds straight to Caldwell's laptop.

An hour before the results were to be announced, the lab director was caught in 4K resolution swapping Julian's blood vials with a random sample, while talking on the phone with Victoria.

"It's done, Ms. Vance," the director's voice echoed through the hidden recording. "The boy is officially a nobody."
