Chapter 7 - The Media War

By dawn, the news had shattered the global financial markets.
"VANCE HEIR RETURNS FROM THE DEAD!" "BILLIONAIRE VICTORIA VANCE FLEES MIDNIGHT VAULT OPENING!"
Vance Holdings' stock plummeted, then surged as rumors of the dramatic succession spread. Victoria had not made it to her private jet. The FBI, tipped off by the automatic financial triggers Harrison had set up, had grounded all private flights out of New York. Victoria was hiding in a heavily fortified penthouse owned by a shell company, furiously trying to control the narrative.
She called a remote press conference via video link. Dressed in white to appear innocent, she looked directly into the camera.
"The boy claiming to be Julian Vance is a sophisticated con artist," Victoria lied smoothly, tears pooling in her eyes. "My father was suffering from dementia in his final years. A group of corporate terrorists have manipulated his paranoia and hired a child actor to destabilize our economy. I am demanding an immediate, independent DNA test. Until then, I remain the CEO."
Millions of Americans watched the broadcast. Social media erupted into a frenzy. Was the boy real? Was it a massive scam?
In the Vance mansion, Julian watched the broadcast on a massive flat screen. Caldwell paced the room. "She's trying to buy time to destroy the physical evidence of her embezzlement."
"Let her have the DNA test," Julian said coldly.

"Julian, she owns half the medical labs in the city. She will bribe the technicians to fake a negative result. It's a trap."
"I know," Julian smirked. "That's exactly what I'm counting on."
