Chapter 6 - The Shadows of the Shipyard

The sudden darkness caused absolute panic among the armed guards.
Jack had remotely hacked the shipyard's power grid using a hidden transmitter in his watch.
He immediately dropped to the floor just as Marcus fired blindly into the dark.
The deafening gunshot echoed off the metal walls, followed by the sound of shattering glass.
Jack crawled rapidly across the wet concrete, relying on his perfect memory of the architectural layout.
He reached the wooden chair and pulled a small pocket knife from his boot to cut Sarah's thick ropes.
"Stay completely silent and follow my voice," Jack whispered into her ear.
He grabbed her hand and guided her toward a narrow maintenance tunnel he knew was hidden behind the rusted boilers.
The guards activated the tactical flashlights on their rifles, sweeping bright beams across the empty floor.
"Find them and kill them both!" Marcus roared, his voice cracking with rage.
Jack and Sarah slipped into the damp, foul-smelling tunnel just as a flashlight beam swept past them.
They crawled through the darkness for several minutes until they reached an old access hatch.
Jack pushed the heavy iron hatch open, allowing them to climb out near the edge of the freezing harbor.
Sarah collapsed against a stack of wooden crates, gasping for air and holding her bruised ribs.
"Why are you helping me after I kept your daughter away from you?" Sarah asked through her tears.
"Because you know exactly which cargo ship Marcus put her on," Jack replied coldly.
Sarah nodded frantically, eager to redeem herself.
"It is the heavily rusted freighter at the end of dock four, called the Midnight Star."
Jack looked out across the dark water and saw the massive ship preparing to disengage its heavy mooring lines.
The deep, vibrating blast of the ship's horn signaled that it was about to leave the port forever.

Jack sprinted toward dock four, pushing his exhausted body to the absolute limit.
Suddenly, a blinding spotlight from a pursuing security truck hit Jack in the back, and the rapid crack of automatic gunfire erupted behind him.
