Chapter 2 - The Raid on Oakhaven Motel

The digital clock on the bedside table read 2:14 AM. Sarah was reviewing the offshore account numbers when the tactical perimeter alarm she had rigged on the motel door blinked red.

"Movement outside," she snapped, her military training instantly taking over.

Thomas drew his sidearm, moving silently to the window. He peered through the blinds. "Four unmarked cruisers. Heavily armed officers. It's Chief Miller’s men. They found us."

"Greg must have realized the titanium pendant was missing from Ethan’s belongings at the hospital," Sarah deduced rapidly. "They triangulated my phone before I dumped it."

"They aren't here to arrest us, Sarah," Thomas warned. "They’re here to silence us."

"Let them try," Sarah said. She turned to her three Navy squad mates—Jackson, Reyes, and Miller—who had answered her silent call for help. "Jackson, secure the hard drives. Reyes, get Maya to the extraction vehicle out back. We are not engaging local law enforcement unless fired upon, but we are leaving this perimeter now."

The motel door exploded inward, splintered by a heavy battering ram. Three corrupt Oakhaven officers stormed into the room, assault rifles raised.

"Hands in the air!" the lead officer screamed.

Sarah didn't hesitate. She threw a military-grade flashbang grenade—smuggled out of her personal tactical gear—directly at their feet. The blinding light and deafening boom incapacitated the officers instantly.

"Move!" Sarah shouted.

The squad moved with flawless precision. They bypassed the blinded officers, exiting through the rear bathroom window into the cold, rainy night. Gunfire erupted from the front of the motel as more corrupt cops blindly fired into the empty room, but Sarah’s team was already gone, melting into the shadows of the alleyway.

As they sped away in an armored SUV, Maya looked at Sarah in absolute awe.

"They think they control Oakhaven," Sarah said, loading a fresh magazine into her pistol. "But they just engaged an active-duty Navy squad. They crossed the line from local corruption to federal terrorism. The FBI is going to have a field day."
