Chapter 6 - The Ambush

Victor didn't wait for the court date to strike. He tried to ambush us.

I was walking Lily out of her new private elementary school on a Tuesday afternoon. We were laughing about a drawing she had made when two sleek black sedans pulled up to the curb.

Four men in suits stepped out. One of them was Victor. Beside him was a woman holding a manila folder—a social worker.

"Alexander," Victor said smoothly, adjusting his tie. "I'm afraid this is where it ends. We have a temporary emergency order. Given your 'erratic' behavior at work, Child Protective Services is taking custody of the girl pending the hearing."

Lily hid behind my leg, her small hands gripping my trousers tightly. She was terrified.

The social worker stepped forward. "Mr. Sterling, please hand over the child. It will be easier for everyone."

I looked at Victor. I saw the absolute greed in his eyes. He didn't care about this little girl. She was just a pawn on his chessboard.

I didn't yell. I didn't lose my temper. I pulled out my phone and made one call.

Within sixty seconds, three unmarked SUVs swarmed the street, boxing Victor's cars in. My private security team—highly trained ex-military contractors—stepped out, forming a physical wall between Victor, the social worker, and my sister.

"This is an illegal abduction attempt," I told the social worker, staring her dead in the eyes. "My lawyers have already filed an emergency stay against Victor's fraudulent order. If you step one inch closer to my sister, I will sue you and your department into absolute oblivion."

Victor’s smug smile vanished. He realized, in that moment, that I was no longer just a CEO. I was a protector.
