Chapter 10 - The New Beginning
David kept his finger firmly on the trigger, refusing to lower the heavy weapon.
"He is a sleeper agent, Sarah, step away from him right now," David yelled over the howling wind.
Sarah stood up fearlessly, placing her body directly between the shotgun and my chest.
"He broke the conditioning, David, he sacrificed everything to save us tonight," she pleaded desperately.
David stared at my battered, bleeding face, searching for any signs of the ruthless assassin I used to be.
He saw the way Lily and Tommy were clinging to my legs, completely trusting me with their innocent lives.
David finally exhaled a long breath and slowly lowered the barrel of the shotgun toward the dirt.
"Get in the truck, we have a safe house waiting across the border," he ordered gruffly.
We climbed into the warm vehicle, leaving the nightmare of our past burning brightly in the distance.

The pharmaceutical syndicate was completely dismantled by federal authorities, and their illegal experiments were exposed to the world.
We relocated to a quiet, beautiful cabin in the mountains, finally free from the shadows that had haunted us.
Tommy was receiving the proper medical treatments he needed, and Lily was finally smiling again.
