Chapter 10 - The New Beginning

Mark stumbled out of the wreckage, his face covered in blood and his suit torn to shreds.

He raised the silver pistol, aiming it directly at Ryan's head with a trembling hand.

"If I lose everything, so do you," Mark coughed, his finger tightening on the trigger.

Before Mark could fire, a single gunshot echoed from the edge of the property.

Mark's gun flew from his hand as a bullet shattered his wrist.

He collapsed to his knees, screaming in pain as an army of FBI agents swarmed the lawn.

The lead agent lowered his sniper rifle and rushed over to Ryan and his family.

"Chloe sent us an encrypted data drive exposing this entire syndicate hours ago," the agent explained, securing Mark in heavy handcuffs.

Ryan turned to look at his wife, completely overwhelmed by her bravery and brilliance.

She smiled softly, tears of profound relief finally falling down her soot-covered cheeks.

"It is over, Ryan, we are finally safe," Chloe whispered, wrapping her arms around his neck.

Three months later, the horrors of that night felt like a distant, faded nightmare.

Ryan and Chloe had bought a beautiful, quiet house near the sunny coastline of California.

Leo and Mia were playing together in the backyard, laughing as they chased a golden retriever puppy.

They had legally adopted Mia, making their family complete and incredibly happy.

Ryan stood on the porch, sipping a cup of coffee and enjoying the absolute peace of his new life.

He walked to the front mailbox to retrieve the morning letters.

Inside the metal box was a small, unmarked black package tied with a silk ribbon.

Ryan opened the box, his blood running completely cold as he stared at the contents.

Resting inside was the exact same piece of crushed bread Leo had pushed through the vent, perfectly preserved.

A small, handwritten note was tucked beneath it, bearing a terrifying message.

"Did you really think Mark was the one in charge?"
