Chapter 8 - The Confrontation

Marcus was barely breathing, his chest rising and falling in shallow, painful gasps.
He weakly pointed a trembling bloody finger toward the open balcony doors.
Chloe stepped out from the dark shadows, holding a black handgun pointed directly at Julian’s head.
“Drop the weapons, or the billionaire dies right now,” Chloe screamed frantically.
Julian’s security team immediately lowered their rifles to protect his life.
Chloe looked completely unhinged, her hair wild and her expensive clothes covered in dirt and blood.
“He tried to back out of the plan,” Chloe said, gesturing aggressively toward Marcus's bleeding body.
“He said he couldn't hurt his own daughter, so I shot the pathetic coward myself.”
She had manipulated Marcus into doing the dirty work, only to discard him the second he grew a conscience.
I slowly raised my hands and took a cautious step forward to draw her attention away from Julian.
“You already have the ten million dollars, Chloe.”
“You can walk away right now and disappear forever.”
Chloe laughed maniacally and pointed the gun directly at my chest.
“It was never just about the money, Evelyn.”
“You humiliated me in front of the entire city and destroyed my perfect future.”
She demanded that I hand over my personal cell phone containing the master passwords to the Rhodes Capital security grid.
“I am going to empty every single account this arrogant man owns,” she sneered.
I nodded slowly and reached deeply into my coat pocket.
I walked slowly toward her, holding the phone out with a shaking hand.
Chloe reached out greedily to snatch the device from my grasp.
As her fingers brushed the phone, I pressed a hidden panic button on the side of the case.

The screen flashed a blinding red light, instantly triggering a massive EMP device hidden in Julian's briefcase.
Every single light in the hotel violently exploded, plunging the entire building into absolute, pitch-black darkness.
