Chapter 4 - The Fake Evidence

The entire boardroom fell completely silent as Chloe dramatically marched toward the table.
Security guards rushed in behind her, but Julian stepped out from a corner office and raised his hand to stop them.
“Let her speak,” Julian commanded softly.
Chloe practically glowed with evil triumph as she slammed the yellow envelope onto the table.
“Your precious wife isn’t a compliance expert, Mr. Rhodes.”
“She is a master manipulator who forged her legal credentials and embezzled money from your firm to fund her secret bank accounts.”
Marcus looked at Chloe with a mixture of shock and desperate hope.
“Is this true?” he asked her.
“I paid a private investigator to dig into her past,” Chloe lied smoothly.
She pulled out a stack of heavily edited bank statements and fake email printouts.
Julian walked slowly to the table and picked up the documents.
He reviewed them in total silence for what felt like an eternity.
My heart pounded in my chest, even though I knew the papers were entirely fabricated.
Julian finally looked up from the papers and turned his gaze toward me.
“Evelyn, did you authorize these wire transfers to a Cayman Islands account?”
“Of course not,” I said firmly.
Chloe let out a condescending laugh.
“She’s lying to your face, Julian.”
“She is a gold digger who used Marcus, and now she is using you.”
Julian slowly placed the documents back onto the glass table.
Then, he started to laugh.
It was a deep, terrifying laugh that made Chloe take a physical step backward.
“You really should have hired a better hacker, Chloe,” Julian said.
He snapped his fingers, and his head of security stepped into the room holding a laptop.
“My cybersecurity team detected an unauthorized breach attempt on our servers three days ago.”
“We traced the IP address directly to a cheap motel in South Boston.”
Julian turned the laptop around so everyone could see the screen.
May you like
It displayed a crystal clear security video of Chloe handing a thick stack of cash to a known cybercriminal.
“You just committed federal corporate espionage inside my building,” Julian whispered dangerously.
