Chapter 2 - The Network Backdoor

Caleb stared at the anonymous text message, feeling a cold sweat break out on his forehead.
He rushed out of the restroom and found Malik waiting near the front entrance of the school.
Malik was still nursing his bruised hand, his eyes fixed on the floor in absolute shame.
Caleb pulled him into a deserted stairwell and explained everything that had just happened with the phone.
Malik shook his head, looking more terrified than he had in the classroom.
"You have to drop this, Caleb, because Harrison is untouchable," Malik pleaded.
Caleb refused to back down, realizing that the school's wireless network must have a malicious backdoor.
He knew they needed serious help, so they sought out Chloe, the school's resident cybersecurity genius.
They found her hiding in the back of the library, surrounded by empty energy drink cans and complex code on her laptop.
Caleb begged her to trace the origin of the remote deletion command that wiped his phone.
Chloe hesitated, knowing the severe risks, but agreed when she saw the ugly purple bruises on Malik's hand.
Her fingers flew across the keyboard as she bypassed the school's standard firewall protections.
"Whoever did this has administrative access to every single device connected to the student network," Chloe muttered in disbelief.
She dug deeper, tunneling into a hidden, encrypted private server masked under Mr. Harrison's staff profile.
The screen suddenly flooded with hundreds of hidden folders, each labeled with a specific student's name.
Chloe clicked on Malik's folder first, revealing a treasure trove of illegally collected personal data.
There were intercepted text messages, private emails, and even secretly recorded webcam photos taken from school-issued laptops.
"He is blackmailing half the student body to maintain his perfect passing rates," Caleb realized with mounting horror.
Chloe attempted to copy the folder to an external flash drive, but her screen instantly froze.
A massive, pulsing red eye appeared in the center of her monitor, tracking her cursor movements.
Chloe screamed in genuine terror and slammed her laptop shut so hard the plastic cracked.
"We need to get out of here right now," she whispered, packing her bag frantically.
"They know exactly where we are, and they are coming."

Before they could take a single step, the heavy electronic doors of the library automatically slammed shut.
The unmistakable sound of the deadbolts locking echoed loudly through the dark, empty room.
