Chapter 4 - The Fire

"Run!" my father screamed at the absolute top of his powerful lungs.
We frantically sprinted toward the open apartment doorway as fast as our highly trained legs could possibly move.
We dove headfirst onto the hard concrete landing just as the device violently and completely detonated behind us.
A massive, terrifying shockwave of blistering heat and bright orange flames blew the glass windows entirely out.
The intense physical force of the massive explosion pushed us violently down the first flight of rusted metal stairs.
I coughed up thick, burning black smoke as the cheap apartment complex fire alarm began to shriek uncontrollably.
"Are you seriously hurt, Claire?" my father asked frantically while brushing burning debris off his leather jacket.
"I am completely fine," I gasped painfully, quickly wiping thick soot from my watering, burning eyes.
We quickly scrambled back to our feet and rushed rapidly down to the safety of the dirty, dark alleyway.
I looked up and watched the greedy, massive flames completely consume Melissa's old, abandoned apartment.
Daniel was clearly trying desperately to violently erase every single piece of living evidence from his dark past.
He was absolutely willing to burn down a crowded residential building just to keep his dark secrets deeply hidden.
Suddenly, a incredibly heavy set of thick boots crunched loudly on the loose gravel directly behind us.
A very large, muscular man wearing a thick black ski mask lunged aggressively out from the deep, dark shadows.
He violently swung a heavy, rusted metal pipe directly at my father's completely unprotected, turned head.
I reacted instantly, using my heavily braced forearm to expertly block the devastating, potentially lethal blow.
The cold metal violently bruised my arm, but I completely ignored the intense, blinding flash of physical pain.
I aggressively grabbed the large man's thick jacket collar and executed a flawless, highly devastating hip throw.
The heavy attacker crashed violently onto the hard pavement, completely losing his tight grip on the metal weapon.
I immediately dropped my entire body weight onto his broad chest and aggressively pinned his thick arms down.
My father expertly aimed his loaded pistol directly at the masked man's terrified, wide eyes.
"Who exactly sent you here to violently kill us?" my father demanded in a terrifyingly calm, deadly voice.
The injured man laughed through the thick wool mask, violently coughing up a large bit of dark red blood.
"Your loving husband says hello, Claire," the hired thug wheezed with a highly sinister, disgusting grin.
My cell phone suddenly vibrated violently in my pocket with a completely unexpected incoming video call.

I nervously answered the call and saw Daniel's highly smug, smiling face heavily illuminating the cracked screen.
He was sitting extremely comfortably on the floral couch located deep inside my father's private living room.
