Chapter 7 - The True Betrayal

The rusty hinges of the warehouse doors groaned loudly as a lone figure walked into the dim light.
I strained my eyes, expecting to see a rival mob boss or a corrupt hospital administrator.
Instead, my heart completely stopped when the light hit the face of the woman walking toward me.
It was my own mother, wearing an expensive designer coat and a cold, calculating smile.
She stopped a few feet away, crossing her arms as she looked down at my tied-up body.
I sobbed uncontrollably, begging her to explain why she was standing next to the man who stole my children.
My mother sighed heavily, looking at me with absolute disappointment instead of maternal love.
She explained that my father had died leaving a massive mountain of gambling debts to the rival crime syndicate.
The syndicate had threatened to kill her if she did not produce two million dollars immediately.
When she found out I was pregnant with triplets, she saw a perfect, tragic opportunity.
She was the one who contacted Mark, convincing him to abandon me and act as the broker for the black market.
She was the one who bribed the doctors to tell me my babies were dead in the delivery room.
I screamed at her, the physical pain in my chest feeling worse than any bullet could ever inflict.
My own flesh and blood had sold my children to save her own pathetic life.
Mark interrupted my weeping, checking his gold watch with a nervous twitch.
He told my mother that they needed to finish this quickly because Damian's men would eventually find the bunker.
My mother nodded, pulling a suppressed pistol from her expensive coat pocket and aiming it directly at Denny.
She coldly stated that there could be absolutely no witnesses left alive tonight.
Before she could pull the trigger, the entire roof of the warehouse violently exploded.
Shattered glass and metal rained down as a massive black helicopter hovered directly above the broken skylight.
Ropes dropped from the sky, and heavily armed tactical operatives descended into the building.
The front doors were blown completely off their hinges by a massive armored vehicle.

Damian Marchetti stepped out of the smoke, covered in dirt and looking like the devil himself.
He raised his weapon, his eyes locking onto Silas with a promise of absolute death.
