Chapter 2 - The Stolen Diamonds
I stared at the diamonds, my heart hammering wildly against my ribs.
I demanded to know exactly where Victoria had gotten that necklace.
Victoria’s arrogant smirk faltered for just a fraction of a second.
She quickly recovered, claiming she had purchased it at a private auction in Paris last month.
I knew with absolute certainty that she was lying to my face.
There were specific engravings on the clasp that only the royal jeweler and my family knew about.
I ordered the security guards to let Maria go and leave the room immediately.
They quickly released the terrified housekeeper and scrambled out into the hallway.
I walked toward Victoria, my voice dropping to a dangerous whisper.
I told her our engagement was officially over as of this exact second.
Victoria stepped back, her face twisting into an ugly mask of pure hatred.
She screamed that I could not humiliate her in front of the servants.
I grabbed the velvet box from her hand and told her to get out of my house.
Maria dropped to her knees, hugging her crying daughter tightly against her chest.
Victoria glared at them, her eyes promising a brutal and unforgiving revenge.
She warned me that breaking our alliance would destroy my entire corporate empire.
I told her I would gladly burn my company to the ground before marrying a liar.
Victoria stormed out of the playroom, her heels clicking aggressively against the marble floor.
I knelt beside Maria, apologizing for the horrific scene she had just witnessed.
Maria wiped her tears, pulling Lily closer in a fiercely protective embrace.
She whispered that I should not have defended her against that woman.
I assured her that Victoria was gone and could not hurt them anymore.
Maria shook her head, her eyes wide with a terrifying realization.

She told me that Victoria was not just a spoiled heiress throwing a tantrum.
She revealed that Victoria was the ruthless woman who had murdered her husband three years ago.
