Chapter 6 - The Heiress
Elias threw the heavy gold statue with brutal force before the mercenary could even aim.
The heavy metal struck the leader right in the chest, sending him crashing backward into the hallway.
Arthur lunged forward simultaneously, using the diamond-testing laser to blind the second guard.
Total chaos erupted inside the small, luxurious room.
Elias closed the distance in a heartbeat, grabbing the blinded mercenary and throwing him over a glass table.
The third guard swung his rifle toward Elias, but a sudden flash of movement interrupted him.
Vanessa, the formerly arrogant saleswoman, screamed and threw a massive crystal vase straight at the guard's head.
The crystal shattered on impact, knocking the mercenary off balance just enough for Elias to disarm him.
"Good arm, Vanessa," Elias grunted as he knocked the guard unconscious with a swift strike.
Vanessa was breathing heavily, her pristine uniform ruined, but a fierce look of determination in her eyes.
"Nobody threatens a child in my store," she yelled, completely transformed by the adrenaline.
Outside in the main lobby, the sound of police sirens finally pierced the air.
Blue and red lights flashed through the shattered front windows.
"The real police are here," Arthur announced, checking his bruised arm.
Marcus suddenly scrambled up from the floor, a desperate and wicked look on his face.
He pulled a small electronic remote from his pocket, laughing like a madman.
"Julian promised me a payout, and I am going to collect it," Marcus yelled.
He pressed the red button on the remote, triggering the store's extreme lockdown protocol.
Thick titanium shutters slammed down over the windows and the main exit.
Worse, the heavy doors of the VIP vault began to slide shut, trapping them in the airtight safe room.

Before Elias could reach him, Marcus threw the remote into the hallway and rolled under the closing vault door.
They were locked inside a windowless steel box with less than an hour of oxygen left.
