Chapter 6 - The Executive Trap

Mauricio did not look like the humiliated, furious groom who had been left at the altar just hours ago.
He looked completely relaxed, swirling a glass of amber whiskey in his free hand while keeping the gun perfectly steady.
"Did you really think I wouldn't anticipate your pathetic little rescue mission, Julian?" Mauricio sneered.
Valeria froze with her hands hovering entirely still over the computer keyboard, her heart pounding in her throat.
Julian slowly raised his empty hands, his face completely devoid of any fear or panic.
"You are incredibly predictable, Mauricio," Julian replied, his voice maintaining its usual cold arrogance.
"I knew you would trigger a silent alarm the moment you realized the money was moving."
Mauricio stood up slowly, keeping the deadly weapon trained directly on the woman he had claimed to love.
"Step away from the computer right now, Valeria, or I will put a bullet in your new boyfriend's leg," Mauricio commanded.
Valeria slowly backed away from the desk, utterly terrified by the violent madness shining in Mauricio's eyes.
"You are completely insane," Valeria whispered, realizing she had never truly known the monster she almost married.
"I am protecting my investments," Mauricio corrected sharply, walking around the massive mahogany desk.
"You signed away the rights to that software when you accepted my ring, making it my legal property."
He reached into his tailored suit jacket and pulled out a crumpled, heavily folded document.
He violently threw it onto the floor at Valeria's feet.
"That is a confession stating that Julian coerced you into embezzling funds from my company," Mauricio explained with a wicked smile.
"Sign it right now, and I might just let you walk out of this building alive."
Valeria looked down at the fabricated confession, knowing it would send Julian to prison for decades.
Julian suddenly shifted his weight, catching Mauricio's intense attention.
"You should look out the massive window behind you, Mauricio," Julian suggested calmly.
Mauricio laughed mockingly, refusing to fall for such a childish, desperate distraction.

"Do you think I am an absolute idiot?" Mauricio spat.
Before Mauricio could blink, the thick floor-to-ceiling glass window behind his desk violently shattered inward.
