Chapter 2 - The Hidden Truth

The terrifying medical diagnosis echoed in Arthur's mind like a physical blow.

His beautiful daughter was slowly dying right under his own roof.

He immediately ordered a team of private security agents to lock down his entire estate.

No one was allowed to leave the property without his explicit permission.

Arthur drove back to the mansion with a burning desire for absolute vengeance.

He kicked the heavy oak front doors open and stormed into the living room.

Victoria was sitting on the velvet sofa, crying fake tears and pretending to be a worried mother.

Arthur aggressively threw the medical toxicology report directly onto the glass coffee table.

He demanded to know exactly where she had acquired the military-grade poison.

Victoria gasped dramatically and placed her hand over her chest in mock horror.

She swore on her life that she loved Chloe and would never hurt her stepdaughter.

Victoria quickly pointed her manicured finger toward the kitchen hallway.

She blamed the head housekeeper, Mrs. Higgins, claiming the older woman had been preparing all of Chloe's meals.

Arthur motioned for his armed guards to search the staff quarters immediately.

They found Mrs. Higgins frantically stuffing stacks of cash into a large suitcase.

Arthur grabbed the terrified housekeeper by the shoulders and demanded the absolute truth.

Mrs. Higgins fell to her knees, weeping hysterically as she begged for her life.

She confessed that Victoria had forced her to mix the poison into the girl's daily tea.

If the housekeeper refused, Victoria had threatened to deport her entire family.

Arthur felt sick to his stomach realizing the depth of his wife's pure evil.

He ordered the guards to arrest Victoria and hold her in the study until the police arrived.

But Mrs. Higgins grabbed Arthur's sleeve with a shaking, desperate hand.

She whispered that the poison was only a small part of Victoria's actual master plan.

The housekeeper reached into her apron and pulled out a heavy, rusted brass key.

She told Arthur that he needed to go down to the forbidden wine cellar immediately.

Mrs. Higgins warned him that he was going to find something far worse than poison hidden in the dark.
