Chapter 6 - The Glass Fortress

Eleanor sprinted across the open floor plan. Glass shattered all around her as the mercenaries laid down suppressing fire. She dove into the server room, rolling across the anti-static floor just as the heavy glass door exploded behind her.

The server racks were humming quietly on backup battery power. Eleanor pulled the encrypted flash drive from her clutch and jammed it into the master terminal.

Her fingers flew across the keyboard. Code cascaded down the monitors.

"Access Denied. Dual-Biometric Scan Required."

"Damn it," Eleanor hissed. Arthur wasn't lying; the offshore billions were locked behind his and Julian’s combined DNA and retinal scans.

Outside the server room, Silas had run out of ammunition. He engaged in brutal hand-to-hand combat with two mercenaries, using a shattered keyboard and sheer force, but Julian was moving past them.

Julian stepped into the server room, a bloody smile on his face, holding a Glock aimed right at Eleanor’s head.

"Checkmate, Eleanor," Julian breathed heavily, his tuxedo torn and ruined. "You got the company, but you’re broke. And now, you’re dead."

Eleanor didn't raise her hands. She stood between Julian and the terminal, staring him down.

"Are you sure about that, Julian?" she asked calmly. "Do you really think I spent fifteen years planning my revenge just to get locked out by a retina scanner?"

Julian frowned, his finger tightening on the trigger. "What are you talking about?"

"I don't need your father’s retina," Eleanor said softly. She reached up and tapped her own cheekbone. "I share his DNA. I’m his daughter, Julian. Your half-sister."
