Chapter 10 - Ashes of the Old World

The storm broke by dawn.

The morning sun cast a brilliant, golden light over the city, reflecting off the puddles left behind on the red carpet outside the Metropolitan Atrium.

Eleanor stood on the balcony of the Hawthorne Global corporate headquarters—now officially renamed Vanguard Holdings. She wore a perfectly tailored white suit, a stark contrast to the dark, ruined gown from the night before. She held a cup of black coffee, watching the city wake up.

Julian was in federal custody, screaming for a lawyer he could no longer afford. Arthur was in a maximum-security holding cell, placed on suicide watch. The untouchable bloodline had been reduced to ashes in a single night.

The heavy glass door to the balcony slid open. Silas stepped out, wearing a fresh, immaculate suit.

"The board of directors just held an emergency vote," Silas reported, standing beside her at the railing. "It was unanimous. You are officially the CEO and sole owner of the Vanguard Trust."

"And the offshore funds?" Eleanor asked, taking a sip of coffee.

"Distributed exactly as you asked," Silas said. "Fifty percent used to reimburse the stolen pensions. The rest is fully secured in your name."

Eleanor looked out at the skyline. The air was clean, washed fresh by the violence of the storm. She had spent her entire life consumed by the fire of revenge, and now, the fire was out.

"What happens now, Ms. Vanguard?" Silas asked, his voice softer than usual.

Eleanor turned to look at the man who had risked everything for her. She offered him a small, genuine smile—the first true smile she had worn in fifteen years.

"Now, Silas," Eleanor said, looking out at the empire that was finally hers. "We build a new world."

She turned and walked back into her boardroom, ready to rule.
