Chapter 8 - The Live Broadcast

Elara slowly stood up, looking down at the pathetic, crying woman who had murdered her mother.
She reached into her pocket and pulled out her cell phone one more time.
The screen was glowing brightly, displaying an active, running timer for a video call.
"Thank you for your honesty, Camilla," Elara said, her voice echoing coldly through the room.
She turned the phone screen around so Camilla could clearly see who was on the other end of the call.
It was the local Chief of Police, completely dressed in his formal uniform, sitting at his desk.
"We heard everything clearly, Madam Chairwoman, my officers are entering the lobby now," the Chief said through the speaker.
Camilla’s face drained of all remaining color as she realized she had just confessed to murder on a live, recorded broadcast.
"No, no, you tricked me, that is completely inadmissible in court!" Camilla shrieked frantically.
Vance let out a dark chuckle, adjusting his suit jacket.
"Actually, since you were actively involved in a hostage situation, emergency wiretap laws apply perfectly," Vance informed her.
Richard, still pinned to the floor by the security guard, suddenly snapped.
His reputation was completely ruined, his wealth was entirely gone, and he was married to an exposed murderer.
He saw the jagged, broken glass of a shattered champagne bottle lying on the marble floor near his hand.
With a sudden burst of desperate, adrenaline-fueled strength, Richard aggressively shoved the guard off his back.
He grabbed the sharp, jagged glass neck of the bottle and scrambled to his feet.
"You ruined everything, you ungrateful little witch!" Richard roared like a wounded animal.
He lunged violently toward Elara, aiming the sharp glass directly at her throat.
The wealthy guests screamed again, completely unprepared for another burst of sudden violence.
Elara did not even blink, standing perfectly still as her father charged at her with murderous intent.
She knew she did not need to run or hide anymore.
Before Richard could take even three steps, Vance intercepted him with brutal, unforgiving force.
Vance delivered a devastating palm strike directly to Richard’s chest, knocking the air out of his lungs instantly.

Richard dropped the broken glass and collapsed heavily to the floor, gasping helplessly like a dying fish.
The heavy, metallic sound of the ballroom doors being forced open finally echoed through the venue.
