Chapter 7 - The Confession

Before Julian could even process the red laser on his chest, a sharp, muffled cracking sound echoed from the ceiling vents.

A precision sniper round struck the silver pistol perfectly, shattering the weapon right out of his hand.

Julian screamed in agonizing pain as the kinetic impact violently fractured his wrist.

He dropped Camilla, falling to his knees and clutching his rapidly swelling arm.

Vance moved instantly, closing the distance in less than a second and kicking the broken gun away.

He grabbed Julian by the collar, slamming him face-first into the polished marble floor and securing his hands with heavy zip-ties.

The immediate threat was finally neutralized.

Camilla sat on the floor, gasping for breath and shivering uncontrollably from the terrifying ordeal.

Elara slowly walked over to her stepmother, her high heels clicking loudly in the quiet room.

She stood directly over Camilla, casting a dark, intimidating shadow over the older woman.

"You thought you were so smart, so untouchable," Elara whispered softly.

Camilla looked up, her face completely ruined by tears, sweat, and absolute terror.

"I am sorry, Elara, please let me go, I will leave the country tonight," Camilla begged pathetically.

Elara slowly crouched down, bringing her face inches away from Camilla's ear.

"I do not care about the money or the company, Camilla, I only care about the truth," Elara said dangerously.

Camilla swallowed hard, trying to avoid Elara's piercing, interrogating gaze.

"The truth about what?" Camilla stammered weakly.

Elara pulled the torn piece of white lace from her pocket and held it in front of Camilla’s face.

"Tell me what really happened on the night my mother's car went off that bridge," Elara demanded.

Camilla’s eyes widened in profound horror, realizing Elara knew the darkest secret of all.

"It was an accident, the police report said it was black ice!" Camilla cried out defensively.

Elara forcefully grabbed Camilla’s expensive diamond necklace, twisting it tightly until the woman choked.

"Do not lie to me, Camilla, or I will let Vance take you to a very dark, quiet place," Elara threatened.

Camilla looked at Vance, who was staring at her with dead, merciless eyes.

The fear finally broke her completely.

"I paid the mechanic to cut her brake lines!" Camilla screamed hysterically, tears streaming down her face.

"I wanted Richard and the money, and she refused to grant him a divorce!" Camilla confessed loudly.

The entire ballroom gasped collectively, horrified by the casual admission of cold-blooded murder.

Elara let go of the necklace, a tear finally escaping her eye, but her smile was terrifyingly victorious.
