Chapter 7 - The Boardroom Coup

Marcus stared at the glowing billboard as the rain washed the sweat and grime down his face.

Eleanor had murdered her own loyal doctor just to frame her son.

"You crossed a line you can never come back from, Mother," Marcus said into the phone.

"There are no lines in business, Marcus, only winners and corpses," Eleanor replied coldly.

"The Vance Global board of directors is assembling on the eighty-second floor of the tower right now."

"By sunrise, I will be elected interim chief executive, and Chloe will be placed in state custody."

The call disconnected with a hollow click.

Marcus looked down at Chloe, whose breathing was becoming shallow and ragged.

A sleek black delivery van pulled up to the curb of the alley, its hazard lights flashing twice.

The door slid open, and Dr. Thorne stepped out, his face covered in soot but completely unharmed.

"Dominic took out the third shooter and secured a private federal transport," Dr. Thorne said quickly.

"Get inside, Marcus."

Marcus carried Chloe into the back of the van, where portable life-support equipment was already humming.

Dr. Thorne quickly attached an intravenous line to Chloe's tiny arm.

"I analyzed the liquid in the amber vial before the laptop was destroyed," Dr. Thorne said, his voice grave.

"It is Neurotoxin-9, a lab-engineered synthetic compound that mimics rapid brain hemorrhage."

"Chloe was given a preliminary dose hours before you arrived at the hospital."

Marcus felt a cold rage settle over his mind, burning away all fear.

"How long does she have without the antidote?" Marcus asked.

"Less than three hours," Dr. Thorne replied solemnly.

"And the only synthesizing formula exists inside Eleanor's personal safe in the executive boardroom."

Marcus turned to Dominic, who was sitting in the front passenger seat cleaning a cut on his forehead.

"Dominic, call our contacts in the Department of Justice," Marcus said with deadly calm.

"We are taking back my company, and we are taking down Eleanor Vance tonight."
