Chapter 6 - The Breach

"Sniper fire! Down!" Dominic yelled, tackling Marcus and Dr. Thorne to the concrete floor.
A high-velocity bullet shattered the reinforced glass window, embedding itself into the laptop screen.
The computer sparked, smoking as the hard drive was obliterated.
Marcus rolled across the floor, shielding Chloe with his entire body.
Chloe did not scream; she simply buried her face in Marcus's chest, shaking uncontrollably.
"Dominic, how did they find this location so fast?" Marcus shouted over the deafening silence.
"Someone placed a secondary tracker on the ambulance or Julian's car followed our route," Dominic replied.
Heavy concussive flashbangs exploded in the outer garage, illuminating the warehouse with blinding white light.
Three tactical operatives dressed in unmarked black gear breached the inner office door with shotguns.
Dr. Thorne grabbed his medical bag and ducked behind a steel safe.
Dominic returned fire with ruthless military precision, dropping two operatives before they could raise their weapons.
"Move to the maintenance tunnel, Marcus!" Dominic barked, reloading his sidearm with one hand.
"I will hold the choke point!"
Marcus scooped Chloe into his arms and kicked open the heavy iron hatch in the floor.
The tunnel was cold, damp, and smelled of rust and stagnant water.
Marcus scrambled down the metal ladder into the darkness just as automatic gunfire erupted above them.
He ran through the narrow brick corridor beneath the city streets, his dress shoes splashing through muddy water.
Chloe coughed into his shoulder, her skin burning with an unnatural, sudden fever.
After running for ten minutes, Marcus emerged through a storm drain into an alley behind a commercial shipping dock.
His encrypted satellite phone buzzed violently in his pocket.
Marcus pulled it out and answered without hesitation.
Eleanor's cold, mocking laugh came through the speaker with crystal clarity.
"Did you enjoy your little run through the sewers, Marcus?" Eleanor asked.
"Look at the news ticker on the harbor billboard right above you."
Marcus looked up at the massive electronic billboard overlooking Boston Harbor.

His own mugshot was plastered across the giant screen in glaring red letters.
The headline declared Marcus Vance as an armed fugitive wanted for the murder of Dr. Robert Evans.
