Chapter 3 - The Blacksite

Hale slammed the phone down and sprinted out of his office.

The hallways were in total chaos as soldiers scrambled to their lockdown positions.

Red emergency lights strobed across the concrete walls, casting long, terrifying shadows.

Hale drew his sidearm and racked the slide as he reached the heavy steel door of Sector Four.

The two military police officers were standing guard outside the interrogation room.

"Open the door," Hale commanded.

One of the guards swiped his keycard, and the heavy metal door hissed open.

Olivia was sitting calmly at the metal table in the center of the dark room.

Her hands were cuffed to a heavy iron ring bolted to the floor.

Hale stepped inside and locked the door behind him.

He raised his gun and pointed it directly at her forehead.

"The Secretary of Defense just ordered me to execute you," Hale said, his finger resting heavily on the trigger.

Olivia did not flinch or beg for her life.

Instead, a small, knowing smile crept across her face.

"I know," she replied calmly.

"They have been trying to kill me since the day my father died."

"Why did he call you a biological weapon?" Hale demanded, keeping his aim perfectly steady.

"Because the thing that infected my father in that bunker was a genetically engineered parasite," Olivia explained.

"When I killed him, his infected blood mixed with mine through the scratches on my back."

Hale’s eyes widened slightly as he processed the horrifying information.

"The government spent nine years searching for a cure to the parasite," Olivia continued.

"But they did not need a cure, they just needed a host who could survive it."

She slowly stood up, the iron chain clinking loudly in the silent room.

"I am the only person on earth who successfully bonded with the infection without going insane."

Hale slowly lowered his weapon, realizing the magnitude of the conspiracy he had just stumbled into.

"If I do not shoot you, they are going to bomb this base into dust," Hale warned her.

"Then we better leave right now," Olivia suggested.

Suddenly, the concrete floor beneath their feet began to tremble violently.

A massive explosion ripped through the ceiling of the interrogation room, burying them both in darkness and falling rubble.
