Chapter 2 - The Ghost Protocol

Hale stared at the young recruit in absolute shock.

The man she was talking about was Commander David Mitchell.

He was a legend in the black ops community, a man who supposedly died in a tragic car accident after retiring.

"Guards," Hale barked, his voice echoing across the silent field.

Two heavily armed military police officers sprinted over from the perimeter.

"Take Cadet Mitchell to the black site interrogation room in Sector Four," Hale ordered.

"No one speaks to her, and no one looks at her back."

The guards grabbed Olivia by her arms, but she did not resist.

She marched quietly toward the concrete bunker at the edge of the compound.

Hale dismissed the rest of the formation and walked briskly to his private office.

He locked his heavy steel door and booted up his classified terminal.

He typed in a twelve-digit override code to access the deeply buried Grey Lantern files.

He requested the original autopsy photos of Commander David Mitchell.

The screen loaded a grainy image of a man with a massive, fatal stab wound perfectly centered in his neck.

Olivia had been telling the absolute truth.

Suddenly, Hale’s computer screen turned entirely red.

A loud, piercing siren began to wail throughout the entire military base.

An automated voice declared over the intercom that a Black Level lockdown had been initiated.

The phone on Hale’s desk began to ring with an encrypted, untraceable number.

He picked up the receiver and pressed it cautiously to his ear.

"Colonel Hale, this is the Secretary of Defense," a cold voice said.

"You just ran a search query on a ghost protocol file."

"Yes, sir, I have a cadet here claiming to be Mitchell's daughter," Hale replied.

"I know exactly who she is, Colonel," the Secretary stated flatly.

"I am ordering you to walk into that interrogation room and put a bullet in her brain immediately."

Hale froze, his knuckles turning white as he gripped the phone.

"Sir, she is an unarmed American citizen," Hale protested.

"She is a biological weapon, Marcus," the Secretary warned.

"If you do not kill her within the next sixty seconds, I will order an airstrike to level your entire base."
