Chapter 8 - The Empty Cage
The heavy steel door slid open with a loud mechanical groan.
It was not Dante standing in the dark corridor.
It was Marina, holding a suppressed handgun with a trembling grip.
Marina aggressively told Rosa to take her child and run far away.
She claimed that Dante was currently planning to execute them both to appease the cartel.
Rosa hesitated, sensing a deadly trap hidden in the woman's panicked eyes.
Marina grew impatient and pointed the gun directly at Sophia's head.
She physically forced the mother and daughter out into the dark gardens.
Marina marched them at gunpoint toward the back service gates of the estate.
A group of heavily armed men was already waiting silently in the shadows.
Marina shoved Rosa forward and told the men to take the trash away.
The leader of the armed men stepped slowly into the pale moonlight.
