Chapter 10 - A Fragile Sanctuary

A massive, deafening gunfight erupted instantly inside the warehouse.
Dante's highly trained men absolutely slaughtered the unprepared cartel soldiers.
Dante walked straight through the hail of bullets like a man possessed.
He closed the distance and personally fought Rosa's ex-husband in brutal hand-to-hand combat.
Dante gained the upper hand and shot the cartel boss directly in the chest.
The horrific nightmare was finally over for good.
Dante threw his weapon aside and rushed to untie Rosa and Sophia.
He pulled them both into a desperate, passionate embrace on the bloody floor.
He swore on his life that they would never be hurt ever again.
They returned to the quiet estate in the early hours of the morning.
Rosa felt completely and truly safe for the very first time in her life.
She gently tucked a sleeping Sophia into her warm, soft bed.
She smiled and straightened the child's fluffy pillow.
Her hand suddenly brushed against a folded piece of thick, expensive paper.
She pulled it out and read the elegant, familiar handwriting.

The note stated that she had exactly twenty-four hours to poison Dante's wine.
If she failed to kill him, the slow-acting toxin Marina had already slipped into Sophia's milk tonight would stop the child's heart forever.
